Hey guys I decided to write this post as kind of a follow-up to What To Look For In A Home Based Business In 2011 because it just seems to me like they would make a great tag-team.
The logic would be after deciding to start your home based business you would need marketing and leads as part of your planning going forward to be successful.
I guess I could have combined the two and titled the post something like, Lead Generation and What to look For When Starting Your Home Based Business In 2011…..What do you think? No, doesn’t work for me either.
So I came up with 5 keys to generating leads online.
-
Pick One Marketing Strategy
-
Add Content/Value
-
Brand Yourself
-
Connect/Engage
-
Marketing System
#1.Pick One Marketing Strategy- It appears at least to me, that one of the biggest hurdles to newbies when they come online is staying focused on one strategy until you have attained “Sensei Like”status in that one strategy. I know for me I was all over the place and had to unplug due to that huge hole that had developed in my pocket. Can you relate?
So if your using Article Marketing as a strategy for instance, then master it before moving on to something else. If it’s facebook then find some Great Facebook Training and learn all the ins, outs and master facebook (can you even do that?)
Marketing Strategies are broken down in a couple of different categories:
-
Paid ex: PPC, Solo Ads, List Builders
-
Free ex: Article Marketing, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn
Choosing a type of strategy usually comes down to these two factors:
-
Time
-
Budget
Typically it breaks down this way, if you have a budget and you want to generate leads sooner rather than later then Paid Strategies are the way for you to go.
If you don’t have a huge budget and your willing to make the time and be a little patient, then free strategies can work just as well, in some cases better.
Consistency is key. Especially if your using a blog and/or social media. Just because you get a few comments does not mean that you have locked followers in. Consistency leads to familiarity which eventually leads to trust which should be a key goal and where you want to be.
#2.Content – The cool thing about this part of generating leads is the added benefit of establishing your online voice which is a part of your brand, and as more people become familiar with your content and voice your brand will develop and grow.
Content can come in many forms, it can be a blog post, an article, a video for example, and you can get creative and use content in a few ways, because it’s basically information and since so many people come online to research and find out the what’s and how’s to’s to do something that opens up a lot of possibilities for you.
It is important that your content is niche specific that way you can develop loyalty with your readers which is easier when they have some since of where your coming from.
#3.Brand – Now this is really important. It’s your identity online. Your USP unique selling proposition. This will (especially for those new to marketing online) be an ongoing exercise of communicating who you are and why we should listen to you.

Brand recognition can be very profitable for you. A lot of people will drink a Coke even if they are not thirsty, because the brand of “Coke” has been so established as a drink of choice that it’s almost automatic to choose a coke vs something else for a lot of people. This is why content consistency is important.
#4.Connect/Engage – I understand that were not all cut from the same cloth, some of us are more feely, touchy and some of us are like well for lack of a better example Monk…….
Don’t touch me!!….lol
Now that may be a little extreme but my point is with your audience you can’t be stand offish (is that a word?) and be successful in generating leads. People connect with other people so you must lend yourself and actually actively seek out connections with others to generate leads.
You can leave comments on blog posts that you read, leave reply’s when others comment on your posts, connect on the social networking sites, forums to gain friends one must show themselves friendly is kind of a rule of thumb.
#5.Marketing System- There are many out there to choose from and some are better than others. I’ll just say this I had no idea when I came online what a campaign was nor how to set one up, never heard of a capture page, sales funnel anyone? These were totally foreign terms to me and I was looking to make money not learn to be a computer techie.
The benefit of using an Online Marketing System is that (it should) shorten your learning curve and provide a step by step process that will set up your online marketing and sales funnels. Ideally it’s plug and play so that within a very short time your generating leads for your business and properly using the sales funnel for additional income streams independent of your business opportunity.
My Lead System Pro
My recommendation is My Lead System Pro in that regard, (especially if your not generating enough leads for your business) due to the content and training in the back office alone is worth 10 or 20x more than they ask for and the support and community of marketers are truly amazing.
