2012 First Quarter Business Review

Well ladies and gentlemen believe it or not here we are, it’s 2012 and we are already almost done with March…wow. Seems like we were just talking about “Y2k” and how all the computers would shut down world wide..funny how time flies huh? With that thought in mind, how’s business? No really, how’s business? It’s that time of year and major corporations around the globe are doing check ups from the neck up. They are heavy in the process of getting their quarterly reviews done and if you consider yourself in business why not follow suit?       2012 First Quarter Review

So I did a similar post (click here) last year and the thought occurred to me let’s revisit & revamp it for 2012.Here are 10 questions to get you started taking a look at how things are going compared to where they should be…

2012 First Quarter Business Review Questions…

  1. How’s the year to date sales report looking compared to your projections/goals?
  2. Your product or service, how long has it been since it was updated? Is it still marketable?
  3. Do you have a product to market?
  4. Do you have a list to market a product to?
  5. Do you know how to build your list?
  6. If you have a list, have you developed a value based relationship? Do you know how?
  7. Marketing. What’s your budget for marketing? Do you have one? Do you have a marketing strategy?
  8. Do you have a mentor that you follow in your business?
  9. Do you have a business plan that you follow?
  10. Who are you accountable to?

Why is a 2012 first quarter review even something to consider, even for a home based business? Glad you asked. I’d like to think that even though you consider yourself to be a “home based business” that it shrinks or devalues your mindset when it comes to your business. Don’t short change yourself.

Why a 2012 First Quarter Business Review?

A 2012 first quarter business review is helpful in the simplest way by showing early on in the year where corrections and adjustments can be made. Sometimes we don’t know where we are business wise, we may have an idea but there also may be some metric or goal that we hadn’t looked at as closely as we should have.

For instance if you’re a blogger and your goal was to get 300 visitors a day to your blog….what if your only getting 100 per day but because of those 100 you began generating sales for the first time ever? So maybe your original goal of 300 got lost because you have made your first online profits.

So let’s suppose you were able to generate enough traffic to get the 300 visitors per day how many more sales would that be for you? This is just a very rough analogy but if you didn’t at least do a quarterly review you may never know until at the end of the year for example that you were only getting 100 visitors per day 200 short of your original goal and who knows how many $ales? So a 2012 first quarter business review might help possibly.

Again this is all food for thought, maybe this helps or maybe it doesn’t but I wanted to at least put it out there because as the old adage goes, people don’t plan to fail, they just fail to plan. I think this fits perfectly.

In my 2012 first quarter business review, I found that I needed to generate more leads for my business here’s a peek at what I’m using…..

Network MarketingOne of the facts about network marketing is that in order to build a business using this model one must be able to sponsor or recruit others to join them in business. I heard it said or I read it somewhere that if you want to know your level of leadership just simply turn around and see who’s following you.

Shifting gears to why I’m writing this post about Network Marketing, I was watching TV well, kind of, more so trying to find something for my 3 yr old to watch on a Saturday morning and I came across a college basketball game. The Duke Blue Devils were playing and they always get my attention primarily because I always root against them..he, he.

My Network Marketing Ahaa Moment…..

While watching them I began to think and reflect on the fact that they have had a long run of success with multiple championships won on the collegiate level and that is due in part to how well they scout and recruit the players that play for them.

“Coach K” Mike Krzyzewski, is among college basketballs all time great coaches and it’s due in large part to guess what…recruiting.

One word that kind of stands out to me is the word scout. Which tells me that they don’t take every player that they see. There’s a weeding out process or a qualification process that they use to ensure that the players meet the pre-selection qualifications.

In other words everyone isn’t a good fit for their system. So, about network marketing and how this relates to it, well again if you follow the Blue Devils track record of success and you study their methodology you can see how what they do is very similar to what we do as network marketers.

Network MarketingCoach K would not have the success that he’s had if he wasn’t purpose driven and targeting a certain type of player that fits into a profile that has been proven to work and deliver results.

Like top programs in college basketball we don’t want to recruit everyone into our network marketing business. We scout via relationship building. As we get to know and build relationships with individuals and through the art of asking qualifying questions we can scout prospects that we have considered working with.

This is an ongoing process in Network Marketing and everyone that you think will be a perfect fit or a superstar doesn’t always live up to expectations, the numbers say that most don’t. Even Coaches will tell you some “blue chip” recruits end up on the bench and not really being big contributors to the team as originally planned. So even Coach K misses every now and then, but that’s why they keep fresh recruits in the system. So it is with Network Marketing.

Scouting and Recruiting can lead to a championship level network marketing business just like it has led The Duke Blue Devils to multiple NCAA Championships and all the perks that go along with being considered a top tier program. One of the perks and this relates directly to our industry is, the more you win the more attractive to others you become. Just ask Mike Dillard, Jonathan Budd or David Wood as examples. People are seeking them out to work with them because of the success associated with their brand. But it all begins with scouting and recruiting essentials for network marketing success.

Coach K says:

“You develop a team to achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. All of us alone are weaker, by far, than if all of us are together.”
