Content in the form of an article can be if used properly a valuable asset to your blog. Well written, compelling articles can be a powerful tool in developing a following and building relationships through your site. Articles can also help to drive a huge amount of traffic to your site.

In this post you will find 5 key components to effective article writing:

  1. •    Keywords and Keyword Phrases. To drive traffic to your content so that it can be read you need a basic understanding of how to optimize the search engine via keywords and keyword phrases. As each website visitor goes to a site, there are those who are just merely browsing and then there are those who are actually looking for something specific. When this happens, someone usually goes to a search engine and types in the keywords they are looking for (e.g. Home Business, Make Money Online, Autoparts, etc…). It could be anything they want. The Important thing is that you have an article that has the keywords that are related to their search. For example, if you maintain an auto parts site, you want to drive traffic to your site by writing and posting an article about cars and their parts.  There are many tools online (Google Keyword Research tool) that will provide guidance by helping you out in determining what keywords and keyword phrases are mostly sought out. You can use this tool to determine what keywords to use and write about.
  2. •    Keyword Density- Now that you have your keywords and keyword phrases, you must use them fully. An article should have adequate keyword density for a search engine to “feel” its presence.  Getting in the top 3 rankings on Google is ideal and what articles can do best for a site. Keyword density is the number of times a keyword or keyword phrase is used on an article. The number varies depending on the number of words used in an article. An effective article must have a keyword density that is not too high or too low. With a very high density, the essence of the article is lost and may turn off a reader as well as the search engines. It comes off as overeager. A low number may be ignored by the search engines. Remember to write as naturally as possible in the end you are still branding you and your readers will get used to your style of writing.
  3. •    Good Article Content – Like what is stated above, you cannot just riddle an article with keywords. They must also be regarded as good compelling reading. Articles must be able to entertain people as well as provide good information and help for their needs. Articles should be written well with correct spelling and good grammar. If you want people to trust you, make your work good and well thought out. People respond well to figures, facts, statistics and personal stories make you relatable which is also good. Try to get great information and as many facts as you can. A good and well written article will boost your reputation as an expert in your chosen field or topic. As more people believe in you. They will be able to trust you and your products.
  4. •   Linking Articles - Another important thing to remember, if you are going to submit articles to ezines and/or contribute your articles to newsletters and other sites, DON’T ever forget to include a link to your site. Most article directories have what is called an “Author Resource Box” this is where you are able to include links to your blog or capture pages and creatively use a call to action. Most directories will allow up to two links in this area. If people like your articles, they will most likely click on the link directing them to your site.
  5. Eye Catching Headlines I think that this is one of the most overlooked  skills or components of Article Writing. Ever notice what story headlines the 6 o’clock news? Typically a major crime or catastrophe of some sort is used as bait to grab your initial attention. We implement the same strategy here, because if no one notices your Headline you have zero chance of them reading your content. Just for an excercise go to an article directory let’s say Ezines Articles, and read through some articles with special attention paid to the articles that got your attention. Then ask yourself what is it about this article or articles that made me take notice of them?
