Were you aware that there exists a very small percentage of successful multi-level, direct-sales or internet marketers? There also exists a huge gap between the “haves” and the “have not’s” in these industries. Here’s an example of what I mean:

Example:

* MLM Company “A” has about 60,000 reps who earn less than $39 per week.

Now according to the company’s latest income statistics check this out:

* MLM Company “A” has approximately 34 reps earning in excess of $1,000,000.00 per year.

Do you see the disparity? This is not unique to MLM Company A, in fact if you study the direct sales industry numbers only about 3% – 5% of individuals, who join, make significant money (doesn’t matter what company).

My goal here is to get you away from “shrinking” thinking and on to successful thinking. There’s an actual method behind the madness that is direct sales marketing success.

So what is it that sets apart top earners from those who only “wish “they could? Glad you asked because in this short entry we’ll cover 4 steps that top earners have followed on their way to freedom.

1. Top earners have intent, clarity and purpose. If you ever notice top earners typically have a sense of urgency in their voices, walk and conversations. Most leaders don’t have a whole lot of time to spend on small talk for the sake of small talk; even small talk is usually in some way business related.

2. Leaders and Top Earners are time conscious. They understand that time is a resource to be leveraged not misused or mishandled. Leaders understand that we don’t know how much time we have so I need to get as much done in as little time as possible. Said another way Leaders try to collapse time frames, or better leverage their time. A good rule of thumb would be to ask yourself “Is there a better way that I can use this time I have right now?” Top earners also have a schedule in which they follow, there’s a certain amount of time allotted for each activity from work, family time, me time nothing happens haphazardly.

3. Top Earners “Plan to Succeed” and what I mean is they have a written plan to guide them to success. I know you’ve heard the saying “most people don’t plan to fail they just fail to plan” right? Well as simple and noncomplex as it may sound most people in business for themselves have great ideas and energy and may even have a plan, however it’s not usually written out in an organized manner. Any business needs a plan of attack. It should be broken down in measurable steps and goals that can be tracked.

4. This is just my personal opinion based on observation but reason # 4 is all ATTITUDE. All the top earners and leaders that I’ve met have a get it done, bottom line, no excuses, only results matter attitude. I don’t mean stepping on anyone to get what they have, or not doing business with a high level of integrity, I simply mean that within themselves they have an “INTENSE INTENT” to get past hurdles and obstacles to get things accomplished where most people would stop or quit. They push past fears and sometimes even pain because on the other side of fear lies the prize. Remember “INTENSE INTENT”.

My friends if you step up to the plate and you have these tools, you too can be like the Babe and “call your shot” and come through in the clutch for you and your family. It doesn’t matter what company you are involved with, these are universal principles that simply apply to being successful.

One of the best feelings that I’ve ever experienced was the sense of accomplishment that happened to me while playing middle school basketball. The position that I played was  point guard and it was my job to bring the ball up court and set up the plays that the coach called. I was the best ball handler on the team and I welcomed any challenge to try and take the ball away from me.

My coach with his trained eye picked up on a glaring weakness in my game, now up to this point it had not been exploited so I’d not seen it myself. So one day coach calls me over after practice and he says to me you need to work on your left hand, I said why? What’s wrong with it? He said to me you favor your right because that’s your strength but any coach worth his title will spot that and try and take it away, which will make you less effective and hurt our chances at winning.

Now mind you I was still very young and quite immature at the time so I didn’t understand the concept until coach and I played a little one on one and he began to cut off my right side and my weakness became apparent even to me at that point.

So from there we began extra practice sessions specifically targeted at making my left hand as potent as my right. It got a little better but he told me my left needed to become more “instinctive” and I still didn’t quite understand, so he asked me to name a couple of my favorite players (now for you youngsters who read this I’m going to date myself a bit with these names) so I gave it some thought and the first name because of his “handles” was Isaiah Thomas then Magic Johnson also Norm Nixon.

So he just happened to have some recorded tapes of a couple of L.A. Laker and Detroit Piston games and what he pointed out to me while watching was how effortlessly these basketball wizards used both hands without thought or hesitation and he further explained how ineffective they would be if they only had the use and comfort of one hand.

It took some very intense practice,  getting used to and a couple of months but I eventually began to see huge progress and I also began to be able to tell when an opposing player had the same weakness that I had previously and I was able to use that to our teams advantage.

Something else I’d like to point out, because my weakness became a strength my anxiety level in that area decreased and I was able to really narrow my focus on the play,  making sure everyone else was on the same page. In times past I would be a bit distracted because I wasn’t as sure or comfortable using my left hand so my focus was split and I wasn’t always as effective but because I had a coach and I WAS COACHABLE , I was able to overcome a weakness and we won some games that we probably would have otherwise lost.

How is this related to business?  In this industry people get paid to “Coach” or “Mentor” because for many who are brand new to the online world the learning curve is huge, the vastness of the internet can be very intimidating and things change very rapidly. So the most efficient way to reduce your tenure in the”Internet School of Hard Knocks” is to have coaches/mentors who have a track record of success and achieved at least the level you would like to achieve yourself.

The benefits of having a coach:

  1. A set of trained eyes that can spot weaknesses that you may not be aware of.

  2. If someone has agreed to be your coach then they see the hidden potential inside of you.

  3. Coaches can push you to your next several levels.

  4. Coaching can help you develop focus.

  5. Leadership and someone to FOLLOW (very important to have an example of what success looks like)

What to look for in a Coach/Mentor:

  1. A great coach will have some jewelry (a championship ring or two, three or four) a proven record of success.

  2. A great coach still has a coach or has been coached/mentored by another great coach and will share that freely.

  3. A great coach has a great team to coach.

  4. Coaches are teachers and will display a passion to teach/train others for success.

  5. Leadership. Are others following this person? If no one is following them then it’s quite possible they are just someone taking a long walk by themselves..lol.

To Our Success,

I don’t know about you but from time to time I have allowed my past to become a obstacle and stop my progress which affects my future. Remember” when” you are, yeah I said “when” you are as in the moment and what’s in your sphere of control and what’s not. Last I checked we don’t have access to a time machine so we can’t go back in time and change anything, we can however learn from it and allow the past to help us instead of hindering us. I heard a Pastor say once “Thank God failure isn’t Final I could not agree with that statement more. I’m learning to use the moment as a tool to enhance my future….so that’s why I’m able to say that “There’s No Better Time Than Right Now!
